Service Description

Basic Hand Building Class Overview: This is a class designed to teach you how to build with the basics of clay, water, and you hands, but evolves into the use of tools, forms and molds. Students can have zero days of hand building experience to years of wheel throwing are welcome. At the end of the class students will learn how to make functional and decorative forms they never thought they could create. Duration: 10weeks (8 weeks of building and 2 weeks of glazing) Cost: $375 Syllabus: Week 1: Introduction to clay and anticipation of week 9 & 10 – student’s glazing days Mini test tiles Week 2: Pinch Pots Build, rest, refine, almost leather hard – refine, bone dry refining Week 3: Pinch to form pots – slumps and humps Part of the pinch pot and hand-built feet Week 4: Intro to slab Stamps, rollers, cutters, and more on forms Week 5: Test tile glaze session Glaze introduction Week 6: Wall pockets with bling Free style with sponges Week 7 : Finish or recycle old pieces Open class time Week 8: Pinch a large form e.g. a planter or large bowl Week 9 & 10: Glaze pieces and pick up finished pieces
